While the majority of chemicals in beauty products pose slight or absolutely no risk, several dozen are associated to substantial medical problems, including cancer, reproductive and neurological harm, and developmental delays. Cosmetic chemicals enter the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and pose the same risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals associated with cancer can be found in water, food, and many other ordinary goods. But, no category of consumer goods is subject to less government direction than cosmetics, including Lip Polish (Saturn). Though many of the chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products very likely present little risk, exposure to a few is associated with significant health conditions, such as cancer.
