Cosmetic chemicals can enter a person's body through ingestion, inhalation, and internal use, and cause similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals associated with cancer can be found in water, food, and several other ordinary goods. Yet, no sector of consumer goods is accountable to less government inspection than cosmetics and other personal care products, including Concealer. While most of the chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products most likely pose little risk, subjection to some is associated with worrying health concerns, including cancer.
