While most chemicals in beauty products pose little or absolutely no threat, some have been associated to serious medical issues, including cancer, and neurological harm. Cosmetic chemicals enter a person's body through inhalation, the skin, and ingestion, and lead to similar risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals associated with cancer are found in food, water, and lots of other commonly used products. Still, no classification of consumer products is subject to less government direction than cosmetics and other personal products, including Canadian Maple Leaf. Though many of the chemicals in cosmetics likely present very little risk, being exposed to some is associated with worrying health issues, including cancer.
