Though the majority of chemicals in beauty products and cosmetics present very little or no threat, several dozen are linked with serious health problems, such as cancer, reproductive and neurological harm, and developmental delays. Chemicals in cosmetics get into the body through ingestion, inhalation, and internal use, and lead to similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer are found in food and a lot of other everyday products.
