Though most chemicals in cosmetic products present little or zero threat, several are linked to substantial health conditions, such as cancer, and neurological harm. Cosmetic chemicals gain entry to the body through the skin and inhalation, and pose the same risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants associated with cancer are found in water, food, and many other everyday products. Still, no group of consumer products is susceptible to less government inspection than cosmetics, including Protective Foundation SPF 15. Although many of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products almost certainly present little risk, being exposed to a few is associated with significant health concerns, including cancer.
