While many chemicals in cosmetic products present very little or zero risk, several are linked to severe medical problems, including cancer, and neurological harm. Chemicals in cosmetics gain entry to the body through the skin and inhalation, and lead to the same risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants associated with cancer are found in water, food, and lots of other everyday items. Still, no category of consumer items is susceptible to less government direction than cosmetics, including Shampoo. Though many of the chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products probably pose very little risk, your exposure to some is associated with significant health disorders, such as cancer.
