Although most chemicals in cosmetic products pose little or no risk, several dozen are associated with considerable medical problems, including cancer, and neurological harm. Chemicals in cosmetics get into the body through inhalation, the skin, and ingestion, and cause similar risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer are found in water, food, and a lot of other everyday products. Yet, no classification of consumer products is susceptible to less government inspection than cosmetics and other personal products, including Soap.
