While most chemicals in cosmetics pose hardly any or absolutely no risk, several have been linked with substantial medical problems, including developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals gain entry to the body through inhalation, ingestion, and the skin, and lead to similar risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants associated with cancer are found in water, food, and a lot of other common items.
