Though the majority of chemicals in cosmetic products pose little or zero threat, several dozen are associated to severe medical issues, including cancer, and neurological harm. Chemicals in cosmetics enter the body through internal use, the skin, and inhalation, and cause similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals associated with cancer can be found in food and many other commonly used products. However, no group of consumer products is subject to less government inspection than cosmetics and other personal care products, including Eyeshadow #1 (Puttin' on the Glitz limited-edition color collection & purse). While many of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics probably pose very little risk, exposure to a few is associated with substantial health disorders, including cancer.
