Chemicals in cosmetics can enter the body through the skin and inhalation, and pose the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals associated with cancer can be found in food and several other common items. Still, no category of consumer items is susceptible to less government management than cosmetics and other personal products, including Ninja Star.
