While most chemicals in beauty products and cosmetics present little or zero threat, several dozen have been associated to serious health problems, including cancer, and neurological harm. Cosmetic chemicals get into your body through ingestion, inhalation, and internal use, and lead to similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals linked to cancer are found in water, food, and a lot of other common items. Still, no category of consumer items is subject to less government oversight than cosmetics and other personal care products, including Lip Polish. Though most of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics almost certainly present minimal risk, exposure to a few has been linked to significant health conditions, such as cancer.
