While the majority of chemicals in cosmetic products pose little or zero threat, several dozen are associated to severe medical conditions, including cancer, reproductive and neurological harm, and developmental delays. Chemicals in cosmetics can enter a person's body through inhalation, ingestion, and the skin, and lead to the same risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals linked to cancer are found in food, water, and lots of other common products. Still, no classification of consumer products is subject to less government inspection than cosmetics and other personal products, including Matryoshka.
