Though most chemicals in cosmetics pose limited or no danger, several have been associated to serious medical conditions, including developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals invade the body through internal use, the skin, and inhalation, and cause the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer are found in water, food, and many other common products. Still, no classification of consumer products is susceptible to less government direction than cosmetics, including Medicated Shampoo.
