Though the majority of chemicals in beauty products present hardly any or zero risk, several dozen have been linked with severe health problems, such as developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals gain entry to a person's body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and pose the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants linked to cancer are found in food, water, and several other ordinary products. Yet, no type of consumer products is subject to less government direction than cosmetics, including specific dandruff hair shampoo.
