While many chemicals in cosmetics pose minimal or no threat, some have been linked to significant medical conditions, including developmental delays and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics gain entry to a person's body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and cause similar risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals linked to cancer are found in food and various other commonly used products. Still, no area of consumer products is susceptible to less government oversight than cosmetics and other personal care products, including shampoo for white hair. Though most of the chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products probably present little risk, subjection to some has been linked to serious health problems, including cancer.
