Though most chemicals in cosmetics pose little or no risk, several dozen have been linked to considerable medical conditions, such as developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals get into a person's body through ingestion, inhalation, and internal use, and lead to similar risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals associated with cancer are found in water, food, and a lot of other everyday items. Still, no classification of consumer items is susceptible to less government direction than cosmetics and other personal products, including LIP BALM.
