Though most chemicals in cosmetics present little or zero risk, dozens are linked with considerable medical problems, such as cancer, and neurological harm. Cosmetic chemicals can enter the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and pose the same risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer can be found in water, food, and various other common items. However, no group of consumer items is subject to less government inspection than cosmetics and other personal products, including Lip Treatment. Although most of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics and personal care products likely present very little risk, being exposed to a few is associated with worrying health issues, such as cancer.
