While most chemicals in cosmetics pose limited or zero risk, several have been linked to substantial medical problems, including developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals can enter the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and cause the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants associated with cancer are found in food, water, and lots of other everyday goods. Still, no group of consumer goods is subject to less government inspection than cosmetics and other personal care products, including Foundation. Though most of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics and personal care products probably present minimal risk, exposure to some is associated with substantial health conditions, such as cancer.
