While most chemicals in cosmetic products pose hardly any or no danger, dozens are associated to considerable health problems, such as developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals enter a person's body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and lead to the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals associated with cancer are found in food and several other common products.
