While many chemicals in cosmetics present little or no risk, several dozen have been linked to substantial health issues, such as developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals enter the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and cause similar risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer are found in food and various other everyday products. Yet, no classification of consumer products is accountable to less government management than cosmetics, including Eye Shadow (Brazillian Bronze). While most of the chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products almost certainly pose very little risk, being exposed to a few has been associated with worrying health disorders, such as cancer.
