Though the majority of chemicals in cosmetic products present little or no risk, several dozen are linked with serious medical conditions, such as developmental delays and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics can enter the body through internal use, the skin, and inhalation, and cause similar dangers as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants associated with cancer are found in food, water, and lots of other common goods.
