Though many chemicals in cosmetics present very little or absolutely no risk, dozens have been linked with severe medical conditions, such as developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals can enter a person's body through the skin and inhalation, and pose similar risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer are found in water, food, and a lot of other common products. But, no group of consumer products is subject to less government management than cosmetics and other personal products, including Eye Shadow (Minx).
