Although the majority of chemicals in beauty products present limited or no threat, several have been linked to significant health problems, including developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals can enter a person's body through inhalation, the skin, and ingestion, and pose the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer can be found in water, food, and lots of other commonly used products. But, no area of consumer products is susceptible to less government direction than cosmetics and other personal products, including Mineral Eyeshadow. Though most of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics almost certainly pose very little risk, exposure to a few has been associated with serious health concerns, including cancer.
