While most chemicals in cosmetic products present very little or zero risk, some have been associated to significant health issues, such as cancer, reproductive and neurological harm, and developmental delays. Chemicals in cosmetics can enter the body through inhalation, ingestion, and the skin, and lead to the same risks as food chemicals, per this site.
Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer can be found in food and lots of other commonly used products. Still, no classification of consumer products is subject to less government oversight than cosmetics and other personal care products, including Lip Guard. While many of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics probably pose little risk, being exposed to some is associated with worrying health conditions, including cancer.
