Cosmetic chemicals get into a person's body through internal use, the skin, and inhalation, and pose similar risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer can be found in water, food, and several other commonly used goods. Still, no sector of consumer goods is subject to less government management than cosmetics, including Baked Eyeshadow. Though most of the chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products almost certainly pose little risk, subjection to some has been associated with critical health issues, including cancer.
