While many chemicals in beauty products pose very little or zero threat, several dozen are linked to significant medical problems, such as cancer, reproductive and neurological harm, and developmental delays. Cosmetic chemicals can enter the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and lead to the same risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer are found in food, water, and various other common products.
