Though many chemicals in cosmetics pose little or zero danger, dozens have been associated with serious medical problems, including cancer, reproductive and neurological harm, and developmental delays. Cosmetic chemicals get into the body through inhalation, the skin, and ingestion, and lead to similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals linked to cancer can be found in food and several other ordinary items.
