While many chemicals in beauty products and cosmetics present limited or no threat, several dozen are associated with substantial medical problems, such as developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals enter the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and pose the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer are found in water, food, and lots of other commonly used goods.
