While many chemicals in beauty products present limited or zero danger, some are associated with serious health issues, including cancer, and neurological harm. Chemicals in cosmetics get into the body through internal use, the skin, and inhalation, and pose the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants associated with cancer are found in water, food, and lots of other commonly used items. However, no group of consumer items is subject to less government oversight than cosmetics, including Lip Polish (Pearl). While most of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics and personal care products in all likelihood pose little risk, being exposed to some is associated with critical health conditions, such as cancer.
