Though many chemicals in cosmetic products pose minimal or no danger, several have been linked with serious health problems, such as developmental delays and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics get into the body through inhalation, the skin, and ingestion, and lead to the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer are found in food, water, and many other everyday products. But, no category of consumer products is subject to less government inspection than cosmetics, including Lip Liner (Pink Mauve). Though most of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics and personal care products likely present very little risk, exposure to some is associated with critical health issues, such as cancer.
