Though the majority of chemicals in cosmetics pose very little or zero threat, several have been linked to severe health problems, including cancer, and neurological harm. Chemicals in cosmetics can enter the body through inhalation, the skin, and ingestion, and lead to similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants associated with cancer can be found in food and several other commonly used products. Still, no type of consumer products is susceptible to less government direction than cosmetics, including Eye Liner (Cocoa). Although many of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics probably present minimal risk, exposure to some has been associated with critical health concerns, such as cancer.
