While many chemicals in beauty products pose very little or zero threat, several dozen have been linked to severe medical problems, including cancer, and neurological harm. Chemicals in cosmetics enter the body through ingestion, inhalation, and internal use, and lead to the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants linked to cancer are found in food, water, and a lot of other commonly used goods. Yet, no area of consumer goods is subject to less government management than cosmetics and other personal products, including blemish stick. Though most of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products most likely present little risk, exposure to a few has been linked to critical health problems, including cancer.
