While most chemicals in beauty products present minimal or zero threat, several dozen have been associated with serious health conditions, including cancer, and neurological harm. Chemicals in cosmetics gain entry to a person's body through the skin and inhalation, and pose similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals linked to cancer are found in water, food, and various other commonly used items. Yet, no type of consumer items is subject to less government direction than cosmetics and other personal care products, including loose base. Though many of the chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products almost certainly pose minimal risk, subjection to some has been linked to worrying health issues, including cancer.
