While most chemicals in beauty products and cosmetics pose little or no risk, several dozen have been associated with serious health conditions, such as developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals get into a person's body through ingestion, inhalation, and internal use, and cause the same risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals associated with cancer are found in food, water, and several other everyday items. But, no classification of consumer items is accountable to less government direction than cosmetics, including Translucent Pressed Powder (Fair).
