While many chemicals in cosmetics present very little or absolutely no risk, several dozen are associated with serious health conditions, such as developmental delays and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics invade the body through internal use, the skin, and inhalation, and pose the same risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer can be found in food, water, and a lot of other common products. However, no category of consumer products is subject to less government management than cosmetics, including Eye Shadow (Suede). Though most of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics most likely pose little risk, exposure to a few has been associated with major health conditions, including cancer.
