Though most chemicals in beauty products and cosmetics pose hardly any or no danger, several dozen have been associated with serious medical issues, such as developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals invade the body through inhalation, ingestion, and the skin, and pose the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals associated with cancer are found in food, water, and lots of other everyday items. But, no category of consumer items is susceptible to less government direction than cosmetics, including Eye Shadow (Bewitched). Though many of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics and personal care products probably present little risk, subjection to some is associated with significant health disorders, such as cancer.
