Chemicals in cosmetics invade a person's body through inhalation, ingestion, and the skin, and pose the same risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals linked to cancer can be found in water, food, and various other commonly used products. Yet, no category of consumer products is subject to less government oversight than cosmetics and other personal care products, including Eye Shadow (Linen). Though many of the chemicals in cosmetics very likely present minimal risk, being exposed to a few is linked to worrying health concerns, such as cancer.
