Though the majority of chemicals in cosmetics present little or zero danger, several dozen are linked with serious health issues, such as developmental delays and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics can enter the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and pose the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals linked to cancer are found in food and many other commonly used items. Yet, no classification of consumer items is susceptible to less government oversight than cosmetics, including Sheer Shine (Cooper). While many of the chemicals in cosmetics almost certainly present very little risk, exposure to a few is linked to worrying health issues, such as cancer.
