While the majority of chemicals in cosmetic products pose very little or no risk, several dozen have been associated to considerable health problems, including developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals get into the body through the skin and inhalation, and pose similar risks as food chemicals, per this site.
Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer can be found in food, water, and several other common products. Still, no area of consumer products is subject to less government oversight than cosmetics, including pressed base. Though many of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics likely present little risk, subjection to some is associated with worrying health conditions, such as cancer.
