While most chemicals in cosmetic products pose slight or no danger, several dozen are linked with substantial medical problems, such as cancer, and neurological harm. Chemicals in cosmetics enter a person's body through inhalation, ingestion, and the skin, and cause the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants associated with cancer can be found in food, water, and various other commonly used products. But, no group of consumer products is subject to less government direction than cosmetics and other personal products, including Brow Wax (Auburn).
