While most chemicals in cosmetic products present slight or no risk, several have been associated with substantial health conditions, including developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals enter the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and lead to similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants associated with cancer are found in food and lots of other commonly used goods. Yet, no group of consumer goods is subject to less government direction than cosmetics, including Lip Pencil. Though many of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics most likely pose very little risk, subjection to a few has been associated with worrying health concerns, including cancer.
