Though the majority of chemicals in beauty products pose slight or zero threat, several dozen have been linked with significant health problems, such as neurological harm and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics can enter the body through the skin, inhalation, ingestion and internal use, and pose the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer are found in food, water, and a lot of other common items.
