Though most chemicals in cosmetics pose slight or zero threat, several dozen are associated with severe health issues, including developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals gain entry to the body through ingestion, inhalation, and internal use, and pose the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants associated with cancer are found in water, food, and various other commonly used items. Still, no category of consumer items is susceptible to less government inspection than cosmetics and other personal products, including LE ROUGE / LIPSTICK. While most of the chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products in all likelihood pose minimal risk, being exposed to some is associated with serious health concerns, including cancer.
