Though many chemicals in cosmetic products pose minimal or zero danger, some have been associated with severe health issues, such as cancer, and neurological harm. Cosmetic chemicals invade the body through inhalation, the skin, and ingestion, and cause similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.
Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer are found in food and lots of other commonly used items. However, no classification of consumer items is accountable to less government direction than cosmetics and other personal care products, including Nail Polish. While many of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products probably pose little risk, being exposed to some has been associated with worrying health conditions, including cancer.
