While most chemicals in cosmetics pose minimal or no risk, some have been linked to significant health conditions, including cancer, and neurological harm. Chemicals in cosmetics enter a person's body through ingestion, inhalation, and internal use, and pose the same dangers as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals associated with cancer can be found in food, water, and lots of other commonly used items. Yet, no kind of consumer items is subject to less government oversight than cosmetics, including MASCARA. Although many of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics most likely present very little risk, being exposed to some has been associated with substantial health disorders, including cancer.
