Cosmetic chemicals can enter a person's body through the skin and inhalation, and lead to similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals linked to cancer can be found in food, water, and a lot of other common items. Yet, no type of consumer items is subject to less government management than cosmetics and other personal care products, including fall feels eye & cheek palette. Although many of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics probably present very little risk, being exposed to a few has been linked to worrying health conditions, including cancer.
