While most chemicals in beauty products and cosmetics pose slight or absolutely no risk, several dozen are associated to severe health issues, including cancer, reproductive and neurological harm, and developmental delays. Chemicals in cosmetics get into the body through inhalation, the skin, and ingestion, and pose the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer are found in food and lots of other commonly used items.
