Though many chemicals in beauty products and cosmetics pose little or no threat, some have been associated with severe health issues, including developmental delays and cancer. Cosmetic chemicals enter the body through inhalation, ingestion, and the skin, and pose the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Chemicals and contaminants associated with cancer can be found in food and lots of other everyday items. Still, no category of consumer items is subject to less government inspection than cosmetics, including Matte Lipstick (Shade Smoke). Although many of the contaminants and chemicals in cosmetics very likely pose very little risk, exposure to some has been associated with worrying health conditions, such as cancer.
