Though the majority of chemicals in cosmetics pose hardly any or zero threat, several dozen have been associated with severe health conditions, including developmental delays and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics gain entry to the body through inhalation, ingestion, and the skin, and pose similar problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals linked to cancer are found in water, food, and many other ordinary goods. However, no group of consumer goods is susceptible to less government direction than cosmetics and other personal products, including Lip Gloss (Shade Rum). While many of the chemicals in cosmetics almost certainly present little risk, subjection to a few is linked to critical health disorders, including cancer.
