Though most chemicals in cosmetic products pose slight or no threat, several have been associated with significant medical problems, including cancer, reproductive and neurological harm, and developmental delays. Cosmetic chemicals gain entry to the body through the skin and inhalation, and pose the same problems as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer can be found in food and lots of other commonly used goods. But, no area of consumer goods is subject to less government management than cosmetics and other personal products, including Lip Gloss (Shade Freya). Though many of the chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics almost certainly present very little risk, being exposed to some is associated with critical health issues, such as cancer.
