Although most chemicals in beauty products pose little or no risk, several are associated to significant health issues, such as developmental delays and cancer. Chemicals in cosmetics can enter the body through ingestion, inhalation, and internal use, and cause similar risks as food chemicals, per this site.

Contaminants and chemicals associated with cancer can be found in food and a lot of other commonly used items.
